The pressure on women to lose weight or look a certain way is huge and the desire to drop pounds fuels a multi-billion diet product industry every year. A new study has calculated just how much time women spend trying to shed weight and the results are astonishing.
Diets don't work
According to the weight loss manufacturer LipoBind, women spend on average 10 years of their life on a diet. Also, one in ten of commit themselves to 25 years of salad days. This was calculated by the fact that between the ages of 18 and 70, it is likely that women will take up two diet plans per year, each lasting around five weeks. That makes 104 diets in 52 years!
Discouragingly, LipoBind reported that 44% of the women polled said that no matter what they tried, they weren't able to shift those pounds. If the 4,000 women that were questioned represent a true cross-section of society, it's a worrying trend that points to women being unable to accept their body types.
Dietary supplements boost
However when the company came out with a statement clearly encouraging further use of weight-loss supplements, however the study shows that the issue of womens' insecurity is a far larger issue than it is being taken for.
A spokesman said: "There is no miracle pill or quick fix to weight loss. However, millions of people find taking a dietary weight management supplement gives them the extra boost they need to kick start and sustain a new healthy lifestyle programme."
